Zareason Ubuntu Laptop Released But Is it Worth The Price?
Now the reason why I am posting this is to make a point about PC buying this person made some comments about how you can just go buy any new "cheap" laptop and save a whole lot of money rather then buying a new one through this company. What he fails to grasp is nowadays the "New Cheap" laptops have a steep cost. and if you are going to buy "New" you have to think in a investment sort of way. Now if your going Cheap Cheap the used and/or older models are your best way below the video is my comment on the video. Oh one other thing a lot of the other people that commented also missed the big picture to (I aslo corrected my poor spelling, becuase I was rushing the post of my comment.
Okay here is my two cents:
1. I downgrade Windows 8 machines and
replace Windows 8 machines with Linux Distros, and buying any new model
pc with windows 8 (or 8.1) is the biggest pain in the butt when dumping
Windows 8 (dose not matter if it's Windows 7 or Linux that I am
replacing windows 8 with.) Thanks to UEFI BIOS, New Proprietary chipsets
and some even having security chipsets it makes it harder and/or longer
to get everything working smoothly (if at all.) so for to have a
system that works right out of the box is something worth having.
2.
As for the price (believe me I can be quite a penny pincher) I am
looking at a bigger picture. If it is well built (meaning if properly
cared for can last 4 or more years,) using ISO parts (or in the case of
laptops Non-Proprietary parts.) and if the need comes talk to a tech
support that speaks English and not Engrish...... like Dell, HP, Acer,
Toshiba, etc. then that extra cost can be justified.
3. when you
customize your laptop (even with the big name brands) there is not that
much in savings. For example I had to find my Boss a new laptop. He
could get one that was decent Lenovo with a 4th gen I5 on newegg for
around $700, but he wanted certain extras. So we found a similar model
at Lenovo, and after adding TWO things (bigger HDD and a 1080p screen)
the price was around $1200 (plus $100 for a copy of Windows 7 Pro.) So
were was the savings? Well when you go Ala Carte there is no
savings.
So for there price it can be justified as a good
deal. Now if there made poorly, have bad customer service, and/or it
was easier or quicker to just repalce a windows 8 laptop with linux (or
Windows 7) then yes I would say avoid those companies like ZaReason or
System 76. Plus if you can keep that laptop running for 5 or more years
(thank to Linux) it beats buying a new laptop every year or so.
I
am planing to buy a system from them the Verix 545 series after my
customizing it's going to cost me $2,722 but this is with all the bells a whistles and a good I7 4710QM so there would not be the need to upgrade
for the life of the laptop. and that beats $700 yearly for 5 years
(which I did from 2006~2011 which came to $3500 without sales tax &
Shipping)
